Rockstar Mayhem Festival 2011

I went to the 2011 Rockstar Mayhem Festival yesterday with Mickey and some other friends. It was a great day for a concert and all of the bands sounded great!

We didn’t show up until later in the day, so for us, the concert started with Testament headlining one of the side stages.  Setlist:

  • Over the Wall
  • The Preacher
  • The New Order
  • More Than Meets the Eye
  • Into the Pit
  • D.N.R. (Do Not Resuscitate)
  • 3 Days in Darkness

Trivium played on the other side stage after the Testament set, but they’re not really my speed, so we headed over to the main stage to find our (great) seats.  Machine Head opened the main stage.  They had a pretty short set, but they hit some of my favourites:

machinehead

  • Imperium
  • Beautiful Mourning
  • Locust
  • Aesthetics of Hate
  • Halo

Up next, Megadeth!  They had played the previous night in France and looked a bit jet lagged, but it didn’t seem to affect the performance too much.  Nothing but hits from these guys (well, except for the new song, but I guess it might be a hit someday):

megadeth

  • Trust
  • Hangar 18
  • Wake Up Dead
  • She-Wolf
  • Head Crusher
  • Public Enemy No. 1
  • Symphony of Destruction
  • Peace Sells
  • Holy Wars… The Punishment Due

Godsmack and Disturbed are sort of ‘co-headlining’ this tour.  For whatever reason, Godsmack were up next, and played a good set, including their famous drum-duet/audience-singalong extravaganza.  There were some technical problems, but they seemed to bother the band more than they did the crowd:

godsmack

  • Cryin’ Like a Bitch
  • The Enemy
  • Forever Shamed
  • Straight Out of Line
  • Awake
  • Speak
  • Love Hate Sex Pain
  • Voodoo
  • Drum duet/battle
  • Whatever

Last set, Disturbed.  David Draiman engaged in a lot less preachy “we are heavy metal brothers & sisters” garbage than I was expecting, so that was a definite plus.  As the last band up, they also got the longest set:

disturbed

  • Remnants
  • Asylum
  • The Game
  • Prayer
  • Liberate
  • The Infection
  • The Animal
  • Inside the Fire
  • Warrior
  • Another Way to Die
  • Stupify
  • Ten Thousand Fists
  • Indestructible
  • Down With the Sickness

All in all a great show – we had great seats, which I’m sure helped… 10th row centre is the right place to be for a heavy metal concert it turns out.  Shoreline Amphitheatre is a seated venue, too, which really helps out for Mickey – it’s a lot easier to get a line of sight.
